Product Stewardship - Fertilizers Europe

On 23 September 2003 Fertilizers Europe, an association of the largest European manufacturers of fertilisers, set up a programme called Product Stewardship, which focuses on Responsible Product Management. ADP Fertilizantes, which has an ongoing commitment to responsible practice, joined this programme.

The Management Systems are in place for the entire range of products manufactured by ADP Fertilizantes and its subsidiary SOPAC, throughout the entire life cycle of these products, including all the processes which the companies are able to control or influence.

The Management Systems also apply to raw materials, intermediate products, and products acquired from other manufacturers for distribution and commercialisation by ADP Fertilizantes, ensuring that all products are manufactured, handled, stored, distributed and used safely from the point of view of quality, the environment, industrial safety and occupational safety, security and plant nutrition.

The Management Programme

In addition to a set of standards, the Responsible Product Management Programme encompasses the responsible practice, extensive experience, and continuous research of the major European producers  that belong to Fertilizers Europe. This programme commits participating companies to:

• Manufacturing and commercialising safe products
• Operating in factories in accordance with industrial best practices
• Rigorously controlling the storage and distribution of fertilisers
• Working with all those involved in the distribution chain to ensure that fertilisers are manufactured, distributed and used efficiently and safely, and that any adverse effects on the environment are minimised
• Sharing health-, safety- and environment-related knowledge about fertilisers with society
• Helping to develop regulations on fertilisers based on scientific knowledge and risk assessments
• Working as a team within Fertilizers Europe to ensure the successful implementation of this ambitious programme: Responsible Product Management
